"The students who attend my German homestay program
have usually expressed an interest in the country as well as the language.
(Many of them happen to be U.S. citizens, often with a German family ancestory.)
Showing them around our beautiful Allgäu region has always been exciting and stimulating
for me, too, no matter whether the places we went to were already familiar
to me or newly discovered.
So, over the years I have become an enthusiastic Allgäu guide.
I still can't decide which village I love the best. And I always enjoy sharing
the variety of sights, smells and tastes whether it's driving along a scenic
country lane past barns and farmhouses with a profusion of colorful petunias and geraniums in their
window boxes, a view south to the soaring snow-capped Allgäu Alps,
a stop to pick up fresh milk and a snack of Allgäuer "Emmentaler" cheese at a dairy,
a stroll across a bustling village market square with a sip of cold "Radler" at a sidewalk cafe,
a glimpse of old-world architecture
(castles, high gables, arches and arcades, or gazing from a tower onto a sea of
red-tiled rooftops of all different sizes and shapes).
I enjoy all this as much as any of my guests who are visiting the Allgäu for the first time!"

| "I'm also very flattered by the comments of our houseguests
who stay here at Haus Tanne. They frequently express delight and appreciation about
our comfortably refurbished 200-year old guesthouse (complete with a ballroom!),
as well as on the delicious regional meals Hedwig prepares daily in our kitchen
using fresh healthy ingredients."
